Notary Public in Dubai: Preparing and Translating Your Power of Attorney and Documents

The Notary Public in Dubai is a function of Dubai Courts, not a private service. It ratifies powers of attorney, attests affidavits and declarations, and issues legal notices — and it works to a simple expectation: the document in front of it must be in Arabic, and if it came from outside the UAE it must already carry the right chain of attestations. Most notary appointments that fail, fail on one of those two points before anyone reaches the substance. MANJAZ is not a notary and does not notarise anything. What MANJAZ does is the part that comes first: the Arabic legal translation, and the attestation of documents issued abroad, so that the file you take to the notary is the file it expects. This page explains what the notary handles, what has to be true of your document beforehand, and where to confirm the current requirement.

  • The Notary Public is a Dubai Courts function — MANJAZ prepares documents for it, and does not notarise
  • Arabic is the language of the UAE courts, so a non-Arabic document needs a legal translation
  • A document issued abroad needs its attestation chain completed before notarisation
  • Dubai Courts runs a Smart Electronic Notary with a virtual-attendance option
  • Dubai-based, UAE-wide service
  • Arabic & English
  • Clear guidance on every document

Getting a document through the Dubai notary

  • Documents we prepare

Powers of attorney (service code G4), affidavits and authentication (H2), and legal notices — الإنذارات العدلية (G5), the formal notice route used in tenancy and debt matters.

  • The two things that fail an appointment

The document must be in Arabic, and anything issued outside the UAE must already carry its attestation chain. Send us the document and we tell you which of the two applies before you book.

  • In person or remotely

Dubai Courts operates a Smart Electronic Notary with virtual attendance, so a session can be held without appearing in person. Availability depends on the transaction.

  • Fees and timing

Notary fees, requirements and processing times are set by Dubai Courts and can change — confirm yours with them. MANJAZ quotes only its own preparation and translation, once we have seen the document.

The Notary Public sits inside Dubai Courts and is the authority that notarises. MANJAZ prepares the file — the Arabic legal translation and, for documents issued abroad, the attestation chain — under UAE Ministry of Justice accreditation, by MANJAZ Corporate & Translation Services L.L.C.

What the Dubai Notary Public is, in one paragraph

The Notary Public in Dubai sits inside Dubai Courts and gives official form to private documents. Its published services include the ratification of powers of attorney (service code G4), affidavits and authentication (H2), and legal notices — الإنذارات العدلية (G5), the formal notice route used in tenancy and debt matters. Dubai Courts also operates a Smart Electronic Notary, which allows a notary session to be held with virtual attendance rather than in person. What the notary does not do is fix your document for you: if it is not in Arabic, or if it was issued abroad and has not been attested, the notary is not the stage at which that gets solved.

MANJAZ is not a notary

Notarisation is an official act carried out by Dubai Courts. MANJAZ does not notarise, certify or authenticate anything, and holds no official authority of its own. What MANJAZ provides is the preparation the notary expects — the Arabic legal translation and, for documents issued abroad, the attestation chain. Requirements, fees and processing times are set by Dubai Courts and can change; confirm the current requirement for your transaction with Dubai Courts directly before you rely on it. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Have a question about your case?

The order that matters

What has to be true of your document first

  1. Establish where the document was issued

This single question decides everything that follows. A document issued inside the UAE takes one path; a document issued abroad has to complete its attestation chain before it is usable here at all.

  2. Complete the attestation chain, if it came from abroad

A foreign public document is attested in its country of issue, then by the UAE mission there, and finally by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Skipping a link does not merely slow the file down — it stops it.

  3. Have it translated into Arabic

Arabic is the language of the UAE courts, so a document in another language needs a legal translation into Arabic before it can be relied on. The translation is part of the file, not an afterthought attached to it.

  4. Then book the notary

With the document in Arabic and its attestations complete, the notary session is the straightforward part — and Dubai Courts offers virtual attendance through its Smart Electronic Notary rather than requiring you to appear in person.

If you have a document heading to the notary and you are not sure whether its translation or its attestation is what is missing, send it over and we will tell you which step it is actually at.

Avoidable failures

The mistakes that send people back from the notary

  • The mistakeTranslating the document before its attestation is finished

The fixAttestation stamps are added to the document, and they are part of what has to be readable in Arabic. Finishing the chain first avoids paying for a translation that is already incomplete.

  • The mistakeAssuming an apostille is enough for the UAE

The fixThe UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone does not substitute for the attestation chain. A document carrying one still needs the UAE route completed.

  • The mistakeBringing a document in English and expecting it to be read

The fixArabic is the language of the courts. Have the legal translation done before the appointment rather than discovering the requirement at the counter.

  • The mistakeTreating a notarised document as a substitute for advice

The fixNotarisation gives a document official form; it does not make its contents wise or enforceable in your favour. If the substance matters, take legal advice on the wording before it is notarised.

The most common reason a document is taken to a Notary Public in Dubai is a tenancy notice: Article 25(2) requires the twelve-month eviction notice to be served through a Notary Public or by registered mail, and a notice to quit for non-payment follows the same logic.
